Jammu, June 10 (NationPress) The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police executed a raid on a residence in the Poonch district on Tuesday, as part of an ongoing investigation into a narco-terrorism case.
Officials reported that the SIA initiated the raid in the Sawjian area of the district this morning, furthering their inquiry into the narco-terrorism allegations.
According to the officials, “The raid was conducted this morning at the home of Mohd Jameel, son of Mohd Latief, who resides in Ward No. 06, Gagrian B. The operation involved the presence of the Naib Tehsildar of Sawjian and the Chowki Incharge of the Sawjian police post.”
This operation is associated with FIR No. 02/2022 filed at SIA Jammu, which reportedly indicates a connection between cross-border drug smuggling by terrorist organizations and their financing activities.
Beyond robust actions against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers, security forces are also targeting drug smugglers and peddlers. Intelligence agencies contend that the funds generated from drug trafficking are ultimately funneled into sustaining terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Many anti-drug operations have uncovered that smuggling networks are often linked to crime syndicates operating across the border.
The SIA of J&K Police has been involved in investigating several notorious crimes, including the assassination of Advocate Babar Qadri, a lawyer and political figure in Srinagar, who was killed in 2020.
Qadri, known for his critical stance against Mian Qayoom, the former president of the High Court Bar Association, had voiced concerns about potential threats to his life. Tragically, he was murdered at his home in Srinagar by terrorists.
During the investigation into Babar Qadri's murder, the SIA revealed, “An extensive investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) brought to light that Mian Qayoom, who had a hostile relationship with the deceased, orchestrated Qadri's elimination through TRF (The Resistance Front) terrorists and their handlers in Pakistan, all part of a criminal conspiracy.”
