Sikkim's Chief Minister and Governor Extend Greetings for Losoong and Namsoong Festivities

Gangtok, Dec 31 (NationPress) Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Governor Om Prakash Mathur welcomed the people of Sikkim as they celebrate the festive occasions of Losoong and Namsoong on Tuesday.
CM Tamang expressed, “As we honor the colorful traditions of Losoong and Namsoong, I extend my heartfelt wishes to the people of Sikkim, particularly the Bhutia and Lepcha communities. These festivals signify the conclusion of the harvest season and usher in the New Year, reminding us of our profound connection with nature and life's cycles. This is a moment to contemplate our unity, celebrate our rich heritage, and anticipate a year brimming with potential.”

In a similar vein, Governor Mathur conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to the citizens of Sikkim.
The Governor stated, “Losoong and Namsoong, primarily a harvesting festival embraced by the Sikkimese, particularly our Bhutia and Lepcha communities, also signify the commencement of the Sikkimese New Year.”
“This festival exemplifies the Sikkimese tradition of coexisting harmoniously with nature and nurtures the bonds of brotherhood among varying communities. As we partake in the joyous festivities following a fruitful harvest, we express love and warmth that transcend family and community, showcasing the ingrained spirit of communal harmony and mutual respect that has been the foundation of Sikkimese society for generations,” he added.
“May this celebratory occasion further deepen our trust and understanding, and may it bring ongoing peace and prosperity to all my fellow Sikkimese,” he concluded.
A senior official noted that the Losoong-Namsoong festivities mark the Sikkimese New Year, celebrating the end of the harvest season.
The Lepchas observe this occasion as Namsoong, while the Bhutias celebrate it as Losoong. The festivities commence from the 29th of the tenth month in the Tibetan lunar calendar and continue for a week.
