Ahmedabad, Dec 14 (NationPress) Significant strides have been made in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Gujarat, following the guidance of the Election Commission of India. This crucial exercise is now approaching its final stages across the state. Launched on October 27, 2025, the revision's goal is to improve the accuracy, purity, and inclusiveness of the voter list in preparation for upcoming elections.

A total of 5.08 crore enumeration forms were distributed throughout Gujarat, and the verification of 10.69 lakh discrepancies identified in the ASD category— which includes absentee voters, permanently migrated individuals, and deceased electors— is now nearing completion.

Importantly, 18 out of 33 districts in Gujarat have reported zero discrepancies in their ASD lists, showcasing the effectiveness of the implementation at the local level.

Election officials credited this progress to the collaborative efforts of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from recognized political parties, who conducted joint verification meetings across various constituencies.

These meetings have facilitated the near-complete resolution of returned or untraceable forms through methodical cross-verification and consensus-based checks.

Following this verification, constituency-specific lists of voters whose forms were not received have been published on the official websites of the respective District Election Officers and the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), ensuring compliance with transparency and public disclosure norms set forth by the Election Commission.

In the remaining 15 districts, verification is still ongoing for approximately 400 pending cases, which officials expect to resolve soon.

The strong performance observed during the counting phase emphasizes Gujarat's administrative capacity in managing large-scale electoral revisions and reaffirms the state's commitment to maintaining a credible and accurate voter database.

The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is vital for preserving the integrity of the democratic process, as it guarantees that voter lists are precise, current, and inclusive. By effectively identifying and verifying instances of deceased voters, permanent migrants, and duplicate or absentee entries, the SIR exercise helps to avert electoral irregularities while safeguarding the voting rights of eligible citizens.

Officials noted that this initiative has also bolstered public trust in the electoral system by enhancing transparency at the booth level through collaboration between election authorities and political parties, ensuring that every eligible voter is accurately represented and that elections are credible, fair, and participatory.
