Kolkata, Nov 7 (NationPress) A staggering 2.10 crore enumeration forms have been handed out to voters in West Bengal during the initial three days of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The ECI commenced the SIR in the region on Tuesday, with the distribution reaching 2.10 crore enumeration forms by 8 p.m. on Thursday.
According to sources from the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) of West Bengal, the distribution of enumeration forms under the SIR has shown promising progress when compared to 11 other states currently engaged in similar electoral activities.
The total number of registered voters in West Bengal, as per the electoral roll dated October 27, stands at 7,66,37,529.
Voters who had their names or their parents' names listed in the electoral rolls from 2002, the last instance of SIR in West Bengal, are required to provide details in the enumeration forms for submission.
These voters are exempt from submitting any additional supporting documents to maintain their names on the electoral roll. The previous SIR in West Bengal was executed in 2002.
For voters whose names or their parents' names were not present in the 2002 list, they must submit one of the 11 documents outlined by the Commission to retain their names in the voter registry.
Meanwhile, a three-member central team from the ECI, including Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, Deputy Secretary Abhinav Agarwal, and Principal Secretary S.B. Joshi, is on a three-day visit to West Bengal to assess the SIR's progress. They are scheduled to hold an important meeting with district electoral officers in Cooch Behar district in North Bengal later today.
On Thursday, the central ECI team met with district-level electoral officers in Alipurduar district.
During this meeting, the central ECI team instructed the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) of Alipurduar district to closely monitor the activities of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) throughout the revision process to ensure compliance with ECI guidelines.
The BLOs were recommended to wear and display their identification cards during house-to-house visits and to complete their tasks within the designated time frame for the SIR.
