New Delhi, Sep 7 (NationPress) As Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a review of the flood relief efforts, Food and Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa took the opportunity to evaluate the ration distribution process established under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Sirsa stated that the ration for September is being distributed free of charge to all eligible beneficiaries, including migrant recipients under the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme.
“We are committed to ensuring that food assistance reaches everyone who needs it without any delays,” emphasized Sirsa.
He instructed officials to uphold the operations of fair price shops and to ensure that no one is deprived of their rations. Additionally, in coordination with the Revenue Department, they are distributing prepared food packets to those in need.
Officials informed the Minister that approximately 57 percent of the September ration allocation has already been distributed, with 145,610 citizens benefiting from the ONORC scheme.
Sirsa assured that ration distribution has been ongoing smoothly despite the heavy rains.
The Food and Supplies Department is currently supplying essential items like wheat, rice, and sugar to 72,77,975 NFSA beneficiaries, including those classified as Priority Households (PR/PRS) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), following the allocations from the Government of India.
The Minister directed officials to display essential information, such as details about the Vigilance Committee, category-specific entitlements, stock availability, beneficiary counts, helpline numbers, and more on display boards outside fair-price shops.
Sirsa also emphasized that information regarding eligibility under the ONORC scheme should be clearly visible.
“With the efficient distribution of free rations under the ONORC scheme, a program initiated under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi has become a benchmark for the nation. It stands out as one of the top-performing states in ration distribution to migrants under this initiative,” noted the Minister.
Sirsa concluded, “The coordinated efforts of the Delhi government reflect our commitment to supporting citizens during adverse weather. We have established reliable systems to ensure food reaches those in need.”
