Agartala, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended six Bangladeshi nationals, including three women and two children, in Tripura, officials confirmed.

A representative from the BSF stated that, acting on specific intelligence, the anti-human trafficking unit of the border guarding force took the Bangladeshi nationals and a suspected Indian intermediary into custody at Teliamura railway station as they were disembarking from the Silchar-Agartala Express train. The detained individuals were returning from Bengaluru and intended to cross into Bangladesh with the assistance of the Indian intermediary.

In a separate operation, BSF personnel from Border Outpost Kullubari in the Sepahijala district thwarted an attempt to smuggle illegal substances when a group of smugglers attempted to toss a shipment over the border fence. Following a search, the troops discovered two packets containing a staggering 20,000 methamphetamine tablets, commonly referred to as Yaba tablets, with an estimated value of Rs 2 crore.

Moreover, during various operations, the Tripura frontier BSF confiscated foreign cigarettes and other illegal goods valued at Rs 30 lakh.

The BSF has heightened its operations along the extensive 856 km India-Bangladesh border in Tripura as well as in the interior regions to thwart exfiltration/infiltration and cross-border crimes.

The spokesperson emphasized that the BSF is devoted not only to maintaining vigilant oversight along the International Border but also to supporting the goal of a 'Drug-Free Society'.

Surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, parts of Tripura remain unfenced in areas due to local land disputes and demarcation challenges. Last year alone, the BSF arrested 55 Rohingyas, 620 Bangladeshi nationals, and 260 Indian individuals, including human traffickers, across various operations.

Following the unrest that erupted in Bangladesh in June-July, the BSF has escalated its constant vigilance to prevent cross-border movements, infiltration, and numerous criminal activities.
