During this visit, the Prime Minister is set to lay the foundation stone for a significant Rs 11,000-crore Ammonia-Urea fertiliser project.
Sonowal assessed the designated site for the foundation stone ceremony as well as the location for the Prime Minister’s public rally, ensuring that all arrangements for this prominent event, expected to attract a substantial crowd from Upper Assam and surrounding districts, are in place.
After the site inspection, the Minister convened a meeting with party members and the public at the rally location. This meeting included Assam Cabinet Ministers Prasanta Phukan and Jogen Mohan, Rajya Sabha MP Rameswar Teli, MLAs, and senior party officials.
In statements to the media, Sonowal emphasized the significance of this forthcoming project for the agricultural economy of the region, stating that the Rs 11,000-crore fertiliser complex will signify a new era in agricultural progress for the North East, enhancing fertiliser accessibility and boosting farmer morale.
He also noted that meticulous planning is underway to ensure that the Prime Minister’s visit becomes a remarkable and historic event for the people of Assam.
The Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup is set to be developed by Assam Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (AVFCCL) as part of a major joint venture. The Government of Assam retains the largest equity stake at 40%, with key partner PSUs including National Fertilisers Limited, Oil India Limited, Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited, and Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited.
With an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of urea, this facility aims to fulfill the fertiliser demands of farmers throughout Assam and the broader North Eastern region. Once operational, it will become the largest urea-producing unit in the North East.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit is part of a two-day itinerary, beginning on December 20 with the inauguration of the new terminal building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, followed by his journey to Namrup for the foundation stone ceremony and public rally on December 21.
According to a senior official, preparations are progressing across various areas, including security, infrastructure, logistics, and crowd management, to guarantee the successful execution of this significant event.
