Varanasi, March 20 (NationPress) On International Sparrow Day, Atul Pandey, a resident of Kakkarmatta in Varanasi, is spearheading a movement to safeguard the birds.

Under the initiative of the Vyagr Foundation, Atul has created a Sparrow Colony as part of his mission to rescue the species whose numbers are rapidly dwindling. This project aims to offer a sanctuary for sparrows, allowing them to thrive in greater numbers.

The Vyagr Foundation, founded by Atul Pandey, is dedicated not only to raising awareness about sparrow conservation but also to directly supporting the birds.

As part of this mission, the foundation distributes wooden birdhouses and earthen pots as gifts during celebrations like birthdays, weddings, and even during funerals. The objective is to inspire people to participate in sparrow conservation by placing these nests in their homes and promoting the message of protecting sparrows.

In an interview with IANS, Atul Pandey revealed his inspiration for the project: "I am the founder of Vyagr Foundation. Originally from Deoria, I fondly recall the chirping of sparrows filling the air during my childhood in our village. However, urbanization, especially in cities filled with concrete, has led to a noticeable decline in sparrow sightings. This is alarming, which is why we embarked on this initiative to safeguard sparrows."

"We started by giving away wooden birdhouses and earthen pots across the nation and even internationally. These are distributed free of charge during various occasions, like birthdays, anniversaries, and even during mourning ceremonies. Our goal is to raise awareness and equip individuals with the means to help sparrows flourish," he stated to IANS.

Atul also talked about the establishment of the Sparrow Colony, which is now celebrating its 10th anniversary.

"The Sparrow Colony was set up prior to the official founding of the Vyagr Foundation in 2018, and we are now commemorating its 10th anniversary. We have created a secure habitat for the sparrows, featuring small houses, a netted area for them to fly and play, and cleaning amenities. To enhance the ecological environment, we have developed an oxygen park with neem, peepal, and bamboo plants, which are highly oxygenated and beneficial for the birds."

Atul’s initiative is receiving accolades for its innovative approach to sparrow conservation, particularly in urban areas where these small birds are facing a rapid decline. His efforts are gaining traction, with awareness spreading across the country and even internationally regarding the significance of saving sparrows.

Another member of the foundation, Jayant Singh, praised Atul Pandey's efforts, stating, "His commitment to raising awareness for sparrow protection is commendable. He has established nests and environments in various locations, giving sparrows a chance to flourish. His contributions to sparrow conservation are substantial, and he is spreading awareness to far-off places about preserving these birds."

With continuing initiatives and a growing community, the Vyagr Foundation is making significant progress in sparrow conservation, creating a more bird-friendly atmosphere, and inspiring future generations to participate in the cause.
