New Delhi, Sep 8 (NationPress) In a significant relief initiative for individuals affected by the recent floods in the Jammu region, the Jammu division of Northern Railways has announced the launch of special train services connecting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in Reasi district and Sangaldan in Ramban district.
The operations will commence on Monday, September 8, and are scheduled to run daily for five consecutive days, concluding on September 12.
Intense rainfall in the area throughout the last week has resulted in flood-like conditions, significantly disrupting regular transportation and train services.
A considerable number of passengers, particularly many pilgrims returning from the Vaishno Devi shrine, found themselves stranded in various locations within the Jammu division.
In an effort to safely transport these pilgrims and provide crucial services such as food and water at major railway stations, the ongoing rainfall has further complicated road accessibility in numerous regions of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
To address these challenges and ensure public convenience, Northern Railways has opted to operate two special trains, numbered 04685 and 04686, between Katra and Sangaldan.
As per railway officials, these trains are designed to be an immediate transportation solution for residents and travelers trapped in flood-affected areas. The trains will halt at several intermediate stations, including Reasi, Bakkal, Dugga, and Sawalkot.
Train number 04685, departing from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Sangaldan, will leave at 8:40 A.M. and arrive at its destination by 10:00 A.M. The return train, 04686, will depart Sangaldan at 2:15 P.M. and reach Katra by 3:45 P.M., covering the same route in reverse.
Additionally, efforts to assess the damage caused by the floods are currently in progress.
On Saturday, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah instructed officials to form specialized teams to evaluate the destruction caused by the floods in the Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
These teams are responsible for compiling detailed reports and proposals to seek financial aid from the Central government for the impacted population of J&K.
