Chennai, Nov 2 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has accused the Election Commission of attempting to manipulate the electoral process by implementing a comprehensive revision of the voter rolls just months ahead of the Assembly elections.
While presiding over an all-party meeting in Chennai, Stalin labeled this initiative as a “deliberate strategy to eliminate legitimate voters” and to undermine the democratic principles of the state.
The gathering, held at Thyagaraya Nagar and led by Stalin, saw participation from representatives of more than 60 political parties. Invitations were sent not only to the ruling DMK’s allies but also to opposition and non-affiliated parties across the state.
However, prominent NDA members, such as the AIADMK, BJP, PMK, and TDP, chose not to attend the meeting. In his introductory comments, Stalin emphasized that while the importance of an accurate and transparent electoral roll is undisputed, such actions should occur at the right time and under peaceful circumstances.
“Implementing a full revision of voter rolls just months before elections is merely a tactic to erase genuine voters,” he asserted. “We support measures to ensure a fair election, but fairness is rooted in timing and intent. Hasty actions like this raise suspicions about the underlying motives.”
The Chief Minister’s remarks followed the Election Commission’s recent declaration that a “special revision” of electoral rolls would commence across Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, akin to the one conducted in Bihar.
The DMK and its allies have vocally opposed this decision, contending that the timing—so close to the elections—could result in widespread deletion of valid voters and facilitate irregularities. Representatives at the meeting reportedly echoed Stalin’s apprehensions, urging the state government to formally address the issue with the Election Commission.
They also called for transparency in the verification process and adequate public awareness initiatives before any adjustments to the rolls are made.
The all-party meeting culminated in a unified call for vigilance to protect the rights of every eligible voter and uphold the integrity of Tamil Nadu’s electoral system.
