Chennai, Sep 29 (NationPress) Following the devastating stampede at actor-politician Vijay's rally in Karur that resulted in the loss of 41 lives, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced on Monday that the state will establish definitive rules and safety protocols for public events organized by political parties and other organizations.

In a video message shared on his social media platform, Stalin mentioned that a framework would be developed once the Justice Aruna Jagadeesan (retd) Commission of Inquiry concludes its investigation into the tragic event.

"It is our collective responsibility to devise rules and guidelines that must be adhered to by political entities and other organizations when hosting such gatherings. Once the Commission of Inquiry submits its report, discussions will be held with all relevant parties and organizations to prevent the recurrence of such incidents," he stated.

The Chief Minister urged caution amid rampant unverified claims and rumors about the incident spreading on social media.

"I have noticed the dissemination of fake news and harmful remarks. No political leader would want their followers or innocent individuals to perish. Regardless of party affiliations, they are all Tamils to me. I urge everyone to refrain from making irresponsible statements," he expressed.

Labeling the Karur disaster as major and unprecedented, Stalin underscored that human life should take precedence over politics.

"Let us set aside political disputes and personal grudges. Our primary focus must be the welfare and safety of the people," he said.

Stalin further noted that Tamil Nadu, recognized for its progressive initiatives, must ensure that such tragedies are never repeated.

The Chief Minister also recalled his visit to Karur shortly after the incident. "Even after issuing directives to the district administration, I could not stay at home. My heart was heavy and troubled; I had to visit there personally," he remarked.

The state government has declared a solatium of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased and is covering medical expenses for the injured. Stalin reiterated that future measures would depend on the Commission's findings and expressed hope for widespread cooperation in enhancing the safety of public events.
