Chennai, Sep 23 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M.K. Stalin on Tuesday urged the party's Members of Parliament to enhance their presence in constituencies by dedicating at least four days a week to engaging with the public and submitting performance reports bi-weekly.

During a meeting with DMK MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at Anna Arivalayam, the party's headquarters in Chennai, Stalin emphasized the importance of balancing legislative duties with grassroots involvement.

He encouraged them to actively engage in outreach programs such as 'Ungaludan Stalin' and 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin', collaborating with district administrations to ensure prompt resolution of public grievances raised during these initiatives.

Stalin particularly highlighted the need to identify and include eligible women who were overlooked in the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme without any delay.

He reminded attendees of the DMK alliance's significant victory in all 40 seats - 39 in Tamil Nadu and 1 in Puducherry - during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, attributing this success to the hard work of legislators and urging a similar dedication for the upcoming Assembly elections.

"Consistent interaction with constituents, addressing their needs, and maintaining strong collaboration with ministers, district secretaries, legislators, zonal in-charges, and booth-level leaders will be crucial," he stated.

The Chief Minister also instructed MPs to raise awareness about what he termed the "anti-people" policies of the Union government and to keep their constituencies informed about the DMK's welfare initiatives.

Stalin stressed that visits to constituencies should not be mere symbolic acts but rather opportunities to build trust, resolve issues, and maintain momentum as elections approach. To ensure accountability, he mandated that reports on public work and legislative contributions be submitted to him twice a month.

The meeting was attended by senior party leaders, including Duraimurugan, T.R. Baalu, Tiruchi Siva, and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, among others.

This session represents one of the DMK's strongest efforts to align legislative effectiveness with grassroots political mobilization as Tamil Nadu prepares for the next Assembly elections in 2026.

Point of View

It's clear that M.K. Stalin's call for DMK MPs to engage more actively with their constituencies is a strategic move to bolster grassroots support. This approach not only strengthens the party's local presence but also addresses public grievances effectively, reflecting a commitment to democratic engagement that is crucial in the lead-up to the 2026 Assembly elections.
