Strengthening Sports Infrastructure in Sarupathar, Assam: CM Sarma

Guwahati, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed on Monday that a comprehensive sports infrastructure has been established in Sarupathar assembly constituency, a notable region known for producing two exceptional athletes, Lovlina Borgohain and Nayanmoni Saikia.
During an event held in Sarupathar, Sarma inaugurated an indoor stadium and laid the groundwork for a swimming pool.
The Chief Minister emphasized that a strong sporting environment has been established in Sarupathar, which is clearly visible in the locality. The indoor stadium, constructed with an investment of Rs 2 crore, features two synthetic badminton courts and two table tennis courts.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the swimming pool in Sarupathar will be developed at a cost of Rs 75 lakh using the CSR funds from Numaligarh Refinery.
Sarma also informed that the construction of the Lovlina Borgohain Sports Complex in Sarupathar is progressing swiftly. Once these facilities are completed, they are expected to inspire the youth and contribute to producing national and international level athletes from Sarupathar.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister urged local legislators to encourage community participation in the sports initiatives launched in Sarupathar.
He expressed confidence that every athlete in Sarupathar has the ability to succeed like Lovlina Borgohain and Nayanmoni Saikia.
Moreover, the Chief Minister called upon parents to foster a passion for sports in their children, noting that engaging in sports leads to improved physical and mental health. He encouraged the youth to cultivate an interest in sports, which can also pave the way for joining the defense forces.
In addition, Sarma inaugurated the 100-bedded Sarupathar Co-District Civil Hospital today and dedicated an oxygen plant funded by the CSR of Numaligarh Refinery.
Describing the day as significant for the residents of Sarupathar, the Chief Minister stated that the Co-District Hospital, with an investment of Rs 15 crore, offers various facilities including nine outpatient departments, an operation theatre, an emergency ward, a resuscitation room, a special newborn care unit, and both medicine and pediatric wards.
Additionally, the oxygen plant, established through CSR contributions from Numaligarh Refinery Limited, will enhance critical care capabilities during emergencies. He also indicated that more advanced medical services will be introduced to the hospital.
