New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) The Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) has brought to light the challenges faced by students enrolled in Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL), as many have not received their study materials with merely a month remaining before the annual examinations.
Bhim Kumar, a member of the Delhi State Committee of KYS, criticized the administration for the inadequate number of classes available to SOL students.
"It is crucial to highlight that classes for various courses, such as the BA Programme, are set to conclude this month, while other courses will wrap up next month. Currently, SOL is providing only 10-15 classes this semester, which is grossly inadequate to cover the entire syllabus," Kumar stated.
He further mentioned that the Personal Contact Programme (PCP) classes are essential for distance learners to grasp their course material and resolve any questions they may have.
"The limited number of classes has left many students unprepared for their upcoming exams," he added.
In addition, students raised concerns regarding the breach of University Grants Commission (UGC) standards, which stipulate that study materials must be delivered to students within two weeks of their admission.
"Regrettably, the majority of SOL students have yet to receive their study materials, even as exams approach quickly. This delay violates UGC guidelines and jeopardizes students' preparedness for their assessments, placing most at risk of failure," the KYS statement affirmed.
Moreover, there are complications regarding the study centers where the PCP classes for SOL students take place.
"Many students are assigned to centers located far from their homes. At these centers, SOL students are also prohibited from using the library," Kumar added.
The KYS, in collaboration with the students, is urging for the swift and complete distribution of printed study materials to all students.
Furthermore, students are calling for an increase in the number of PCP classes to ensure they have adequate time to complete the full syllabus.
The KYS has also asserted that examinations should only take place after the entire syllabus has been covered, providing students with sufficient time to prepare.
