The police have charged Mohammad Shakir, the owner of Himachal Fun Care Company, with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, among other serious charges, citing negligence in maintaining safety protocols.
Shakir, hailing from Toka Nangla in Himachal Pradesh, oversaw the installation of the swings at the fairgrounds. Alongside him, another suspect named Nitesh from Dharmapuri, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has also been apprehended.
In response to this tragedy, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini declared a monetary compensation of Rs 1 crore for Inspector Jagdish Prasad's family and mandated immediate actions to avert future incidents. The government also promised a job on compassionate grounds for a qualified family member of the deceased inspector.
“I am personally monitoring the treatment of those injured. So far, four of the eight wounded individuals have been discharged from Supreme Hospital, while the remaining four were treated and released from BK Civil Hospital,” Saini stated.
In light of the incident, the management of the fair has temporarily shut down all rides for a thorough safety inspection, although other sections of the fair remain accessible to visitors.
Earlier, Haryana Minister Rajesh Nagar visited the site to assess the situation, emphasizing that no one, regardless of their status, will escape accountability if found guilty.
A spokesperson for the police indicated that, due to the severity of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), following directives from Director General of Police Ajay Singhal. The team includes the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime II), the head of the Crime Branch (NIT), and Sub-Inspector Sanjay from the Surajkund police station. The investigation is being conducted using scientific and technical methods.
Authorities are also scrutinizing the involvement of other individuals in this unfortunate incident. Among the injured are Woman Assistant Sub-Inspector Neelam, Woman Constable Sharmila, and several civilians including Rajesh (SPO), Harsh Prakash, Prashant, Ameesha, Parvinder, Sunil, Shivani, Balbir, Anuj, and Pooja.
