Chandigarh, Feb 8 (NationPress) On Sunday, the Haryana Police announced that they have initiated legal proceedings regarding the tragic Surajkund joyride incident, resulting in the arrest of two individuals, including the owner of the ride-operating company, on charges of negligence in ensuring safety.
A massive swing collapsed at the Surajkund mela in Faridabad, leading to the death of Inspector Jagdish Prasad during rescue efforts, while injuring 12 others. A formal complaint has been filed against Mohammad Shakir, the owner of Himachal Fun Care Company, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder along with other applicable charges.
Inspector Jagdish Prasad tragically lost his life while bravely attempting to save the injured.
A police representative indicated that due to the gravity of the situation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) consisting of three members has been established under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) as directed by Director General of Police Ajay Singhal.
The investigative team includes the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime II), the head of the Crime Branch (NIT), and Sub-Inspector Sanjay, who is stationed at the Surajkund police station. The investigation is being conducted on both scientific and technical bases.
During the investigation, Mohammad Shakir, a resident of Toka Nangla village in Sirmaur district, responsible for the swing's installation at the fair, along with another suspect, Nitesh, from Dharmapuri in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, have been apprehended.
The police are currently assessing the involvement of additional individuals related to the incident.
The Director General of Police expressed that Inspector Jagdish Prasad displayed remarkable courage in rescuing the injured during his duty, and his loss is an immense blow to the Police Department. He assured that the department will provide all necessary financial support to the family and, in accordance with its compassionate policy, employment opportunities will be offered to an eligible family member.
The DGP also paid visits to the Civil Hospital in Faridabad and Supreme Hospital to check on the conditions of those injured.
According to the police, 12 individuals were injured in this incident, including Woman Assistant Sub-Inspector Neelam, Woman Constable Sharmila, Rajesh (SPO), Harsh Prakash, Prashant, Ameesha, Parvinder, Sunil, Shivani, Balbir, Anuj, and Pooja.
Of these, five have been discharged, while the remaining individuals are reported to be stable and receiving comprehensive medical care.
