Kolkata, Nov 12 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, made a significant move on Wednesday by submitting 65 complaints to the Election Commission of India (ECI). These complaints address alleged irregularities during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the commission in the state.
The majority of these grievances concern the conduct of Booth-Level Officers (BLOs), who were reportedly distributing enumeration forms from specific locations instead of adhering to the ECI's directive for door-to-door visits. Additionally, there have been accusations of harassment and physical assaults against Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) affiliated with the BJP, allegedly by supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
A BJP delegation spearheaded by Suvendu Adhikari presented these complaints to CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal at the Chief Electoral Officer's office in central Kolkata on Wednesday.
“We have established monitoring rooms across various districts. We have lodged 65 complaints with the commission. In several instances, BLOs have neglected their duties and instead distributed enumeration forms from clubs while being accompanied by leaders of the ruling party,” he stated.
“Our BLAs have faced violence, with reports of beatings in multiple locations, and tragically, one was even killed,” Suvendu Adhikari informed the press after filing the complaints.
During the event, he revealed that the BJP had submitted around 50,000 BLA applications, with 42,000 already receiving their identity cards.
“I have information indicating that about 43,000 BLAs from the Trinamool Congress have been issued identity cards, while the counts for CPI(M) and Congress BLAs stand at 30,000 and 9,000, respectively,” Suvendu Adhikari said.
Earlier in the day, the LoP shared on social media that he had a fruitful 30-minute meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday evening, discussing crucial matters concerning West Bengal.
Along with his post, Suvendu Adhikari included a photo from his meeting with the Union Home Minister.
