Kolkata, Dec 1 (NationPress) A team from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), spearheaded by Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, will visit the Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office on Monday to lodge a complaint against certain booth-level officers (BLOs) involved in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). This revision process commenced in the state on November 4.
The LoP has alleged that some BLOs have been acting under the directives of the ruling Trinamool Congress' booth-level agents (BLAs).
Additionally, he accused Manoj Pant, the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, of applying indirect pressure through District Magistrates, who also serve as District Electoral Officers, on electoral registration officials to maintain the names of deceased, duplicate, and relocated voters on the electoral rolls.
“Reports indicate that approximately 30 lakh illegal Bangladeshi migrants are still listed as voters. Those responsible for these violations will face consequences. The state government is also not assisting the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure a smooth SIR process,” Adhikari stated.
He confirmed that these issues will be presented by the BJP delegation to Manoj Kumar Agarwal, the CEO of West Bengal, on Monday.
Notably, the ECI had announced on Sunday that the ongoing three-stage SIR in 12 Indian states and union territories (UTs) has been extended by seven days. As a result, the voters’ list for these regions will now be published on February 14, instead of the previously scheduled February 7.
Since the commencement of the SIR, the Leader of Opposition has been vocal regarding the actions of certain BLOs involved in the initial phase of this three-stage exercise, which encompasses the distribution and collection of enumeration forms, along with subsequent digitization.
