Kolkata, July 16 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, emphasized the importance of a thorough door-to-door verification to pinpoint illegal Rohingya infiltrators who have unlawfully registered in the state's voter list.
“In a Special Intensive Review carried out by the Election Commission of India in Bihar, which is preparing for elections this year, several lakh illegal Rohingya infiltrators were uncovered. Likewise, numerous illegal Rohingya individuals have crossed into West Bengal after illegally entering from Nepal and Bangladesh. An immediate door-to-door assessment is essential to identify these Rohingya voters,” LoP Adhikari told reporters on Wednesday.
He led a delegation from the BJP to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (West Bengal), Manoj Kumar Agarwal, to reiterate this demand.
While he criticized the state government and Trinamool Congress for allegedly aiding illegal Rohingya immigrants in enrolling in West Bengal's voter list, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was addressing supporters in another area of Kolkata.
At her rally's conclusion, she protested against the alleged, selective targeting of Bengali-speaking individuals in other states, labeling them as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Mocking the Trinamool Congress protest, the LoP stated that the Chief Minister's primary goal was to safeguard these illegal Rohingya voters in West Bengal.
“Mamata Banerjee had dispatched her party's Lok Sabha member from Krishnanagar to the Supreme Court for the same aim. The CM claims that stopping illegal immigration is the responsibility of the BSF. I question why the West Bengal government is hesitant to provide land to the force,” he challenged.
He noted that the most significant rise in voter numbers in West Bengal, according to the latest revision, occurred in the nine districts bordering Bangladesh.
“If 30 lakh false voters have been removed from Bihar's voter list, in West Bengal, the figure could easily reach 90 lakh,” he asserted.
He also mentioned that the demographics of certain areas in West Bengal have shifted due to this extensive illegal immigration.
