Chennai, July 26 (NationPress) The proposed airport in Hosur is edging closer to realization, as the Tamil Nadu government is anticipated to commence land acquisition efforts in the coming three months, according to an official statement.
A significant milestone has been reached with the completion of an Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) survey conducted by a state-appointed consultant, covering two potential sites.
Sources indicate that both sites are technically suitable for airport development, albeit with some challenges.
The first site is located roughly 1.5 km from the current airstrip managed by Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited (TAAL), while the second is positioned about 15.5 km to the east of Hosur and north of Shoolagiri.
Officials noted that the topography at both sites is uneven and presents various natural and artificial obstacles.
However, the OLS report suggests that these issues can be mitigated through appropriate engineering and safety measures.
The state government is expected to finalize the site within six weeks, after weighing the advantages and disadvantages of each option. Following site confirmation, land acquisition processes will commence.
Having been in the planning phase for over a year, the airport project is regarded as a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic growth in Tamil Nadu.
Earlier in the year, TAAL showed interest in forming a joint venture with the state government for airport development.
While discussions have taken place, officials state that any partnership will hinge on the final site selection and subsequent regulatory approvals.
Simultaneously, the government has reached out to the Ministry of Defence for the necessary approval to create a dedicated air traffic control zone for the new facility—a mandatory requirement for operational clearance. This approval is anticipated within two months.
A meeting with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is also on the agenda to address technical issues concerning airspace.
The proposed airport is projected to significantly benefit Hosur, a city already flourishing in the automobile and electronics manufacturing industries.
If implemented, the airport could stimulate further industrial investment and enhance regional connectivity.
