Chennai, Feb 12 (NationPress) A 43-year-old private school educator was taken into custody on allegations of sexually assaulting a Class 9 student in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. The individual, known as Sudhakar (43), served as a Tamil language instructor at the institution.
His arrest followed the filing of a case against him under three provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The matter surfaced when the boy experienced health issues.
Worried about their child's well-being, his parents probed further, and the boy accused Sudhakar of sexual harassment.
Due to an infection, the boy was hospitalized at Royapettah Government Hospital for care. After a complaint lodged by the parents, the K.K. Nagar police initially documented the case and initiated an inquiry.
The investigation was subsequently handed over to the Saidapet All-Women Police Station.
In the meantime, the school administration declared Sudhakar's termination.
It is noteworthy that only days prior, a 13-year-old girl from a government school in Bargur, Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, accused three of her teachers of rape.
This incident transpired in the first week of January and only became known on February 3, when school staff visited the girl's home to investigate her extended absence.
Tamil Nadu opposition leader and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami expressed dismay over the situation.
In a social media update, he criticized the DMK government for its inability to safeguard students in government schools and urged Chief Minister M. K. Stalin to assume full accountability for the event.
BJP Tamil Nadu Chief K. Annamalai denounced the incident, stating that sexual assaults against women and girls have become a terrifying reality in Tamil Nadu.
