AIADMK Removes Party Member Following Arrest in POCSO Case

Chennai, Jan 8 (NationPress) AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), on Wednesday announced the expulsion of party member P. Sudhakar, who was taken into custody due to a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

In an official declaration, EPS stated that Sudhakar was dismissed from the party’s primary membership for acting against its interests and damaging its reputation.

Sudhakar, previously associated with the party’s South Chennai (North West) district unit, has also lost his official position.

EPS urged all party members to refrain from any connections with him.

The arrest relates to the SIT’s ongoing inquiry into the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Anna Nagar.

Sudhakar was reportedly detained on January 7 for assisting the main suspect, Suresh (30), in evading capture.

Furthermore, a woman police inspector, Raji, was arrested for allegedly attacking the victim’s parents and trying to impede the investigation.

Sudhakar’s arrest occurs as the AIADMK intensifies its criticism of the DMK government regarding the Anna University sexual assault incident.

EPS has consistently targeted Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s administration, claiming a rise in crimes against women since the DMK regained power.

The prompt expulsion of Sudhakar is perceived as a strategy for damage control by AIADMK leadership.

Previously, the AIADMK had organized statewide protests against the DMK government concerning the sexual assault of a second-year engineering student on the Anna University campus on December 24.

After the incident, the police swiftly apprehended a local biryani vendor, Gnanashekaran (37), who was identified as the perpetrator.

The BJP, led by state president K. Annamalai, claimed that Gnanashekaran had connections to the DMK and a criminal background. However, the DMK firmly denied these allegations.

Both AIADMK and BJP have accused the DMK government of inaction regarding Gnanashekaran’s past offences, which they argue enabled him to commit the latest crime.
