Chennai, Feb 9 (NationPress) The AIADMK, Tamil Nadu's main opposition party, has taken aim at Chief Minister M.K. Stalin over the alarming rise in crimes against women, encompassing rape and sexual assault, across the region.

AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, accused the Chief Minister of not effectively addressing criminal activities and failing to protect women and children.

Palaniswami, a former Chief Minister himself, urged Stalin, who has direct oversight of the Home Department, to enact decisive measures against criminal elements to restore law and order.

He cited numerous recent incidents, stating that Tamil Nadu has become increasingly unsafe during CM Stalin's tenure.

Highlighted cases include the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl by three government school teachers in Krishnagiri, the mysterious death of a Class 9 girl in Cuddalore, and a pregnant woman being thrown from a moving train in Vellore after resisting a sexual attack.

Additionally, Palaniswami mentioned the sexual assault case at Anna University and a car chase incident along East Coast Road in Chennai.

He also raised serious concerns regarding claims made by a senior woman IPS officer, Additional Director General of Police Kalpana Nayak, who alleged an assassination attempt on her life in 2024 due to her efforts to expose irregularities in police recruitment.

The state government dismissed her claims, attributing the fire in her office to a short circuit.

Moreover, Palaniswami referred to reports of contamination in an overhead water tank in Srirangam block of Tiruchirappalli district and questioned the lack of resolution in the Vengaivayal incident in Pudukottai district.

Criticizing Stalin’s leadership, Palaniswami accused him of behaving like a “monarch of the past”, prioritizing roadshows over addressing public issues.

He alleged that during Stalin's visit to Tirunelveli district, he neglected the grievances of Manjoli estate workers.

The AIADMK leader condemned the ruling DMK's governance, labeling it an “unruly regime” masquerading as the “Dravidian model of governance”.

He claimed that Stalin is merely a “puppet Chief Minister” and asserted that citizens from various walks of life are united in their determination to oust the DMK government in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
