Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 9 (NationPress) Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the Leader of the Opposition and General Secretary of AIADMK, has sharply criticized the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, asserting a significant decline in law and order throughout the state.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Palaniswami declared that under the governance of the DMK, violent crimes are no longer isolated but have become widespread.
He stated that the state is witnessing 'murder everywhere, always', indicating a troubling trend rather than sporadic occurrences, and accused the government of neglecting the safety of its citizens.
Highlighting recent crime reports, the former Chief Minister mentioned the murder of an elderly person in Krishnagiri district and the alleged assault on the victim's wife, calling it 'deeply disturbing.'
Furthermore, he cited the killings of two individuals in Tirusoolam near Chennai and the murder of a farmer in Sankarankovil, Tenkasi district, illustrating a concerning trend in crime.
'What a horrible situation this is for senior citizens, who do not feel secure even inside their homes,' Palaniswami lamented.
He questioned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's response to the deteriorating law and order situation in the state over the past five years.
Palaniswami also claimed that Chief Minister Stalin has inadequately addressed the rising crime rates and urged the government to take immediate and strict measures against those responsible for these recent incidents.
He emphasized that the state administration must prioritize the public's safety and work to restore residents' confidence.
Meanwhile, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, General Secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), also criticized the DMK government, citing an alleged sexual harassment incident involving a seven-year-old girl in Namakkal district.
Dhinakaran noted that this incident, which reportedly occurred during the celebrations of International Women's Day on March 8, raises serious concerns about the safety of women and children in the state.
He accused the government of failing to establish a secure environment for women, both in public settings and at home, asserting, 'When there is no safety for women anywhere in the state, it is shameful for the Chief Minister to project himself as a protector of women.'
The allegations from opposition leaders emerge amidst a politically charged atmosphere in Tamil Nadu as parties ramp up their campaigns ahead of the impending Assembly elections.
