Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), Oct 5 (NationPress) Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday urged teachers to take an essential role in ensuring the continuity of Punjab’s rich heritage by educating younger generations about it.
Speaking at a function held to celebrate Teacher’s Day, the Chief Minister emphasized that teachers are the architects of the nation and should enlighten youth regarding the state's rich cultural legacy.
He mentioned that after a span of 55 years, the government has initiated the construction of a heritage walkway leading to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib.
Mann remarked that teaching transcends mere profession; it is a mission aimed at enlightening students. Being the son of a teacher, he acknowledged the relentless efforts teachers invest in shaping their students’ futures.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the recent floods have devastated 3,200 government schools, 19 colleges, and resulted in the destruction of 8,500 km of roads and 2,500 bridges.
Additionally, he highlighted that the floods caused the loss of crops across five lakh acres, yet Punjabis have shown remarkable courage to recover from this natural disaster.
Mann also commended teachers for their outstanding contributions during the crisis, noting that such acts of valor are seldom seen in global history.
While congratulating award recipients among the teachers, the Chief Minister stated that by honoring “our educators, we are recognizing their pivotal role as builders of the nation.”
He elaborated that the term Guru, derived from the Sanskrit words “Gu” (darkness) and “Ru” (remover), signifies one who dispels ignorance, emphasizing that the role of a teacher is to illuminate their students with knowledge.
The Chief Minister remarked that teachers shape the blank slates of their students into future doctors, engineers, and artists, much like sculptors crafting their masterpieces.
Today, the government recognized 71 teachers across various categories with the State Teacher Award for their invaluable contributions in shaping the future of generations to come.
Mann expressed his satisfaction that Punjab now boasts world-class trained teachers in its government schools.
