Patna, June 3 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, made a visit to the Kurhni area of Muzaffarpur on Tuesday to offer his condolences to the family of an 11-year-old Dalit girl who tragically lost her life after being denied prompt treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

This heartbreaking incident has sparked significant political outrage, highlighting serious deficiencies within the state’s healthcare system.

The young girl, who was sexually assaulted by a local villager, was referred from Muzaffarpur to PMCH in Patna, where she reportedly waited in an ambulance for almost four hours without being admitted, despite her critical condition.

She succumbed to her injuries on June 1, igniting widespread protests.

During his visit with the mourning family, Tejashwi Yadav vehemently criticized the Nitish Kumar-led government and Health Minister Mangal Pandey, attributing the tragedy to the failure of Bihar’s healthcare infrastructure.

“They keep claiming an investigation committee is in place. My question is, how many cases have seen actual consequences following these investigations?” he stated.

“If the hospital system had been functioning properly, this girl would still be alive today,” Yadav asserted.

He also condemned the state’s law and order situation, noting that such heinous crimes are becoming alarmingly frequent across Bihar, and pointed out that political negligence and corruption in postings and transfers have severely compromised governance.

The Congress party organized a state-wide protest on Monday, burning effigies of both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Health Minister Mangal Pandey.

This tragic event has become a focal point for the opposition as elections approach, with accusations of indifference, administrative breakdown, and systemic neglect.

In response to increasing pressure, the Bihar government took significant disciplinary measures on Tuesday.

Dr. Abhijeet Singh, the Deputy Superintendent in charge of PMCH Patna, has been dismissed for administrative neglect, while Dr. Kumari Vibha, the Superintendent of SKMCH Muzaffarpur, has been suspended immediately for failing to adhere to referral protocols and for displaying insensitivity in the treatment of the victim.

As per the official order from the Health Department, these actions were based on preliminary findings, with further proceedings, including the formulation of a charge sheet, currently underway.

Point of View

The Bihar government faces mounting pressure to address systemic issues. Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks underscore the urgent need for reforms in the healthcare sector. It is essential for authorities to prioritize accountability and transparency to restore public trust.
