Patna, July 23 (NationPress) In a notable intensification of the political impasse regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, Bihar's Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has suggested the potential for a boycott of the forthcoming Assembly elections, citing a “deliberate” effort to disenfranchise voters.
Responding to media inquiries about the opposition's willingness to consider an election boycott through mutual agreement, Tejashwi remarked: “This can also be discussed. We will see what the public wants and what everyone’s opinion is.”
He further challenged the legitimacy of conducting elections under the present conditions, stating: “When elections are not being conducted honestly, then why are we conducting elections? The elections have been compromised.”
Tejashwi Yadav contended that behind the voter list revision, the BJP and the Election Commission are colluding to eliminate opposition voters instead of purifying the democratic process.
“The Election Commission revised the voter list in January this year and claimed to have identified 18.66 lakh deceased voters between January 25 and June 24, 2025. Did 18.66 lakh people truly pass away in this timeframe? Why were they kept on the voter list for so long? Was the Election Commission inactive before this?”
The assertion that 26.01 lakh voters relocated permanently within four months raises suspicions, as such a large-scale migration without physical verification is improbable.
The ECI’s claim of 3.7 lakh voters registered at two locations lacks transparency, with no clear process for personal notice or confirmation.
The data showing that 6.62 percent of voters are absent from their registered addresses is being employed to conduct “electoral mathematics” at the government’s behest.
Tejashwi demanded clarity on how many of the 52.66 lakh voters targeted for deletion are actually foreign nationals.
“Preparations are afoot to remove millions of names without BLOs visiting doorsteps, particularly aiming at voters opposing the government,” he said.
Tejashwi asserted that this entire revision initiative is part of a meticulously crafted conspiracy by the BJP, aiming to disenfranchise vulnerable groups, minorities, Dalits, backward classes, and opposition supporters to skew the electoral balance in their favour.
“Previously, voters selected the government; now the government selects the voters,” he concluded.
Tejashwi issued a stern warning: “We will not allow their arbitrariness to persist in Bihar.”
