Patna, Aug 5 (NationPress) Tejashwi Yadav, the prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), declared on Tuesday that he is prepared to escalate the issue to the Supreme Court if the purported irregularities in Bihar's draft voter list are not rectified.
In a conversation with the media, Tejashwi pointed out extensive allegations of irregularities present in the draft voter list.
He emphasized, “If the corrections are not made promptly, we will appeal to the Supreme Court. This matter transcends political boundaries—it’s about preserving our democracy.”
Tejashwi accused the draft voter list of containing names of deceased individuals while excluding names from certain communities.
He further stated that the RJD, alongside its allies, will present evidence-supported grievances to the Election Commission of India.
After confirming receipt of a notice from the electoral body, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly assured that he will provide a comprehensive response.
“We will respond... Numerous names are absent from the draft voter list. We intend to forward the list of missing names to the Election Commission and, if necessary, present it in court,” he remarked.
Tejashwi also questioned the lack of responses from the Election Commission regarding their serious and legitimate concerns.
Opposition factions within the Mahagathbandhan have reiterated similar claims, alleging that the Election Commission is under governmental influence in certain districts, which may lead to voter list manipulation.
Political analysts suggest that Tejashwi's statements are strategically timed, coinciding with heightened election activities in Bihar as the critical Assembly polls approach.
Concerns regarding the impartiality of the Election Commission have emerged repeatedly in recent weeks, which has escalated the political tensions.
Tejashwi maintained that if the Commission seeks accountability from political figures, it must also be transparent and responsive to public grievances.
“This is about the integrity of the Constitution and the future of our democracy. We will present our evidence to the Commission and, if necessary, to the judiciary as well,” he concluded.
