Washington, Nov 21 (NationPress) The United States has enacted sanctions against two companies based in India and two individuals, part of what Washington describes as a comprehensive initiative to dismantle shipping and financial operations allegedly linked to Iran's illegal petroleum trade.

In this latest move, the State Department announced on Thursday the designation of 17 entities, individuals, and vessels across various nations, including India, Panama, and Seychelles. These entities are accused by US officials of facilitating the sale and transportation of Iranian oil and petroleum products. Moreover, the Treasury Department designated an additional 41 entities, individuals, vessels, and aircraft purportedly associated with Iran's petroleum and petrochemical exports.

Among the entities targeted is TR6 Petro India LLP (TR6 Petro), a trader of petroleum products situated in India. According to the US government, TR6 Petro imported over $8 million worth of Iranian-origin bitumen between October 2024 and June 2025 from various suppliers. The United States claims that this company was involved in networks that enabled Iran to transport petroleum products in violation of US sanctions.

US officials assert that these networks generate revenue for Tehran, which is used to support Iran-backed groups and procure weapon systems—a claim that Iran has consistently denied.

This action is part of a series of sanctions imposed by the US in recent months against numerous companies accused of obscuring the origins of Iranian petroleum or managing payments for shipments routed through intermediaries in Asia.

In October, the Treasury Department targeted several logistics and trading firms based in India, alleging their involvement in similar activities.

On November 12, the United States sanctioned 32 individuals and entities, including some in India, citing their alleged support for Iran's missile and UAV programs.

The State Department stated, “The United States remains committed to disrupting the illicit funding streams that finance all aspects of Iran’s malign activities. As long as Iran devotes revenue to funding attacks against the United States and our allies, supporting terrorism around the world, and pursuing other destabilizing actions, we will use all the tools at our disposal to hold the regime accountable.”

Point of View

It is crucial to approach this situation with a clear understanding of the complexities involved. The US sanctions reflect ongoing geopolitical tensions and underscore the importance of monitoring global trade practices, particularly those involving nations with contentious relationships. While sanctions are a tool for accountability, they also raise concerns about economic impacts on innocent parties and the potential for retaliatory measures.
