Telangana's Anti-Corruption Bureau Detains Two Officials Over Corruption Charges
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 18 (NationPress) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana has apprehended two government officials in a corruption scandal.
The duo includes Gundeti Ramu, a Prohibition & Excise Inspector from Karimnagar Urban, and Jakkani Venu, a Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) from Obulapur in Jagtial district.
As per the ACB's findings, Ramu, during his time as Station House Officer in Vemulawada, allegedly accepted illegal kickbacks (Mamools) from a jaggery trader through Venu, who is also his former colleague, utilizing UPI transactions consistently from 2022 to 2024.
Venu facilitated these transactions, transferring funds to Ramu and his father’s accounts from his own SBI and UPI accounts.
The ACB has tracked regular financial movements, indicating that Venu’s account was likely used as a benami conduit to disguise the source of these illicit funds.
Upon searching Ramu's residence, agents uncovered and seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 20 lakh. The ACB asserts that Ramu misused Venu as a benami to improperly perform his duties in exchange for unlawful gratifications.
Both individuals will face the Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases in Karimnagar, and the investigation is ongoing.
The identity of the complainant is being kept confidential for security purposes, according to the ACB.
The agency urges the public to report any instances of bribery by public servants by calling the toll-free number 1064 for legal action.
In 2025, the ACB recorded 199 cases, resulting in the apprehension of 273 suspects.
Among these, 157 were trap cases, leading to the arrest of 224 individuals, which included 176 government employees.
Furthermore, there were 15 cases concerning disproportionate assets held by officials, along with 26 other cases involving criminal misconduct by public servants, resulting in 34 arrests.
The anti-corruption body also conducted 26 regular inquiries into corruption claims and executed 54 surprise inspections at various offices, such as sub-registrar offices, RTA check posts, and welfare hostels.
