Telangana Chief Minister Calls for Bharat Ratna for Manmohan Singh

Hyderabad, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, on Monday, made a call for the nation’s highest civilian award to be given to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

This request was presented while initiating a condolence motion at the special session convened to honor the late leader.

The resolution conveyed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh and expressed heartfelt sympathy to his grieving family.

Members from various political parties paid rich tributes to Manmohan Singh, reminiscing about his strong ties with Telangana.

The main opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), expressed full support for the call to award Bharat Ratna to Manmohan Singh. BRS leader K. T. Rama Rao stated their belief that the late leader deserves this esteemed honor.

The Chief Minister also proposed that a statue of the former Prime Minister be erected in the Financial District of Hyderabad to honor his legacy and acknowledge his close relationship with Telangana.

He emphasized that placing the statue in a prominent location would allow people to pay tribute to the late leader on his birth and death anniversaries and draw inspiration from him.

Describing Manmohan Singh’s passing as a significant loss for the nation, Revanth Reddy remarked that his contributions to the country will always be remembered.

The Chief Minister pointed out that Manmohan Singh held numerous crucial roles, including advisor to the Union Finance Ministry, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Finance Minister, and eventually Prime Minister.

He highlighted Manmohan Singh's deep connection to Telangana, noting that the people of the state will always cherish him for realizing their long-standing dream of a separate Telangana state.

Revanth Reddy recalled that it was in Mahabubnagar where, as Prime Minister, he launched the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, providing 100 days of guaranteed employment annually.

He also mentioned that Manmohan Singh introduced the Aadhaar unique identity number, which sparked a social revolution in India. Additionally, it was Manmohan Singh who enacted significant legislations such as the Food Security Act and the Right to Information.

He further noted that Manmohan Singh introduced the Forest Rights Act in 2006 and the Land Acquisition law in 2013 to ensure fair compensation for landowners. The simplified policies he put in place have transformed the country.

Revanth Reddy reminisced about how Manmohan Singh participated in protests by MPs aimed at preserving democracy, stating that those moments would remain etched in his memory.

KTR recounted that during the tenure of P. V. Narasimha Rao, a son of Telangana, Manmohan Singh was brought into the government through lateral entry. Having served in the Reserve Bank of India, he was appointed as Finance Minister.

Referring to the late leader as an exceptional economist, the BRS leader noted that in his inaugural Budget speech in 1991, Manmohan Singh proclaimed that the world would soon recognize India.

The BRS leader stated that Manmohan Singh epitomized the values of simple living and high thinking.

KTR added that loyalty and dedication are rare in modern politics, yet Manmohan Singh exemplified these traits as a great leader who remained faithful to the Congress Party that provided him with opportunities.
