Hyderabad, April 27 (NationPress) The Peace Talks Committee on Sunday urged Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to proactively initiate discussions aimed at fostering peace between the Union Government and the Maoists.
During their meeting at his Jubilee Hills residence, committee members requested the Chief Minister to advocate for the Centre's engagement in peace negotiations with the Maoists.
The leaders emphasized the importance of persuading the Centre to consider a ceasefire.
The representation to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was presented by notable figures such as Justice Chandrakumar, Professor Haragopal, Professor Anwar Khan, Durgaprasad, Jampanna, and Ravi Chander.
In response, the Chief Minister expressed that his administration views Naxalism from a social lens, rather than merely a law enforcement issue.
He indicated plans to consult with former home minister and seasoned leader K. Jana Reddy, who has prior experience in negotiations with Maoists. “We will seek insights and recommendations from senior leader Jana Reddy regarding this matter,” stated the Chief Minister.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister mentioned that the State Cabinet would deliberate on the matter and reach a decision shortly.
This appeal from the Peace Committee comes during a significant operation by security forces against Maoists along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, which has mobilized around 10,000 personnel and has now entered its seventh day.
Reports suggest that approximately 500 members of the banned CPI (Maoist), including several high-ranking leaders, are currently entrenched in the area.
Key figures within the CPI (Maoist) are believed to be concealed in this region, protected by Battalion 1, known as one of the most perilous units of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).
This operation is one of the largest counterinsurgency efforts in the Bastar region, involving diverse units like the District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force of the Chhattisgarh Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force along with its elite Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA).
The Telangana Police are also reported to be collaborating in this operation.
