Hyderabad, Oct 21 (NationPress) Shaik Riyaz, the prime suspect in the murder of a constable, was laid to rest on Tuesday following his death in an alleged police encounter at a government hospital in Nizamabad, Telangana. The burial took place under stringent security measures to avert any disturbances.
Riyaz's remains were returned to his family late Monday night post-autopsy at the Government General Hospital.
He was interred at a graveyard along Bodhan Road on Tuesday, with police implementing strict security protocols to maintain peace.
The 28-year-old was receiving treatment at the hospital for injuries sustained during a confrontation with officers while being apprehended on Sunday.
As per police reports, Riyaz allegedly seized a firearm from an on-duty officer at the hospital and attempted to open fire. Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Redddy stated that Riyaz died during the police's intervention to prevent the shooting.
On October 17, Riyaz had fatally stabbed E. Pramod Kumar (42) while being escorted to a police station in Nizamabad.
After the incident, a manhunt was initiated for Riyaz, who fled the scene post-attack.
On October 19, Riyaz assaulted a man named Asif near Sarangapur under the jurisdiction of Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station. Asif, who was assisting law enforcement in capturing Riyaz, sustained severe injuries during the altercation. Both individuals were transported to the hospital for medical attention, and Riyaz was subsequently taken into custody.
The DGP reiterated that the Telangana Police are dedicated to upholding law and order and targeting serious offenders.
Riyaz's criminal history includes involvement in 61 cases, comprising three murder attempts, robbery, and theft. He faced 50 theft charges, including six in Maharashtra.
Authorities confiscated six tolas of gold and 38 two-wheelers from Riyaz.
On Monday, the DGP announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for constable Pramod's family, including the last salary until retirement, a government job for one family member, and a 300-yard housing plot. Furthermore, Rs 16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare fund and Rs 8 lakh from the Police Welfare fund will also be provided to support the family.
The state police chief assured that both the government and the Police Department are committed to assisting Pramod's wife, Pranitha, and their three young sons.
