Chennai, Oct 21 (NationPress) Veteran AIADMK figure and ex-minister, R.B. Udayakumar, unleashed a fierce critique of the DMK administration on Tuesday, claiming it has squandered a golden opportunity to secure a significant technological investment for Tamil Nadu, despite the state's robust cultural ties to global tech authority.
Speaking to the media, Udayakumar lamented that the DMK had let a pivotal chance slip away to draw Google's new Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data center hub to Tamil Nadu.
"Even with Sundar Pichai, Google's CEO, being of Tamil descent, the DMK government did not extend an invitation for the company to set up its AI infrastructure hub here," he asserted.
The AIADMK figure maintained that the absence of proactive measures and vision on the state's part resulted in Andhra Pradesh winning the lucrative project.
"The DMK government's inaction has led to the project being awarded to Andhra Pradesh instead," he remarked.
Udayakumar expressed concern that the government's failure to seize such opportunities could lead to lasting economic and employment challenges.
"This isn't merely a lost investment; it's a missed opportunity for Tamil Nadu to become a national center for AI, data analytics, and digital infrastructure," he emphasized, highlighting that neighboring states are advancing by actively attracting tech investments while Tamil Nadu falls behind in its initiatives.
He further argued that Tamil Nadu's previously thriving investment environment under the former AIADMK administration has "deteriorated" due to the current government's "lack of vision and engagement" with global tech firms.
"Had the DMK government taken the initiative, the project would have been situated in Tamil Nadu today," he stated.
Udayakumar's remarks come shortly after Google Cloud Global CEO Thomas Kurien revealed that the company plans to establish its largest AI and data center hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
This hub will feature a significant subsea cable landing facility that will connect the city to Google's worldwide network, effectively positioning Visakhapatnam as a critical digital connectivity hub for India. The initiative is projected to greatly enhance India’s digital backbone, creating thousands of skilled jobs and drawing in ancillary industries.
Critics argue that Tamil Nadu's setback highlights the pressing need for a more vigorous investment strategy to maintain its position as a technology and innovation leader in South India.
