Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 27 (NationPress) The Telangana government has allocated Rs 745 crore to settle outstanding bills owed to state government employees. This decision was made following the directive of Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, with the Finance Department disbursing the funds on Friday.
This marks the seventh straight month that the government has provided financial support to address these pending bills.
In line with commitments made to employee unions, the government has been disbursing a minimum of Rs 700 crore monthly for the clearance of outstanding bills since June of the previous year.
In January, the funds released amounted to Rs 720 crore, while in December, the Finance Department handled bills totaling Rs 713 crore.
The government had pledged to the employee unions that they would receive Rs 700 crore each month to settle dues that accumulated during the prior administration's term.
By the end of June 2025, the government had released Rs 183 crore. Since August, the consistent monthly release has been maintained at a minimum of Rs 700 crore.
The outstanding bills pertain to gratuity, the General Provident Fund (GPF), leave encashment, and advances.
During the first week of June, the State Cabinet resolved to address the pending employee arrears as of January 1, 2023, within a span of 28 months. The Cabinet approved the monthly release of at least Rs 700 crore to fulfill these obligations.
This decision followed discussions between the employee union representatives and the Cabinet's sub-committee led by the Deputy Chief Minister.
Previously, employees had threatened to protest in order to voice their 57 demands.
Earlier this week, the Telangana Cabinet also approved an accident insurance scheme and a cashless health scheme for all government employees and pensioners across the state.
Employees will not incur any premiums, and the government will bear no financial burden for the insurance plan, which will benefit 5.19 lakh regular employees and 2.38 lakh pensioners (a total of 7.57 lakh beneficiaries).
In the event of accidental death, Rs 1.2 crore will be provided as compensation. For natural deaths (up to 60 years), Rs 10 lakh will be disbursed, in addition to standard benefits.
The Cabinet also sanctioned a Cashless Employee Health Scheme (EHS), fulfilling a long-standing request from employees. This program will encompass 3.56 lakh employees, 2.88 lakh pensioners, and their dependent family members, totaling 17.07 lakh beneficiaries.
All treatments will be fully cashless across government hospitals and 652 empanelled private hospitals, covering 1,998 medical procedures.
