Yadagirigutta temple: Telangana to frame mutt land allotment policy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on 30 June directed officials to formulate a clear, structured policy for the allocation of land to various mutts operating within the jurisdiction of Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam at Yadagirigutta. The Chief Minister emphasised that ownership rights over all such land must primarily remain vested with the temple.
Key Directives from the Review Meeting
The instructions came during a high-level review of the temple's development, held at the MCR HRD Bhoomi Pavilion in Hyderabad. Revanth Reddy specifically directed officials to study the land-allocation framework followed by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and adapt its principles for Yadagirigutta.
On the question of guest houses, the Chief Minister called for a comprehensive list of parties willing to undertake construction on the hill, with permissions to be granted in phases in line with TTD's model. He also stressed that a policy with clear regulations must be drawn up for land allocation to caste associations.
Hare Rama Hare Krishna Foundation Land Proposal
Revanth Reddy suggested that land within the Yadagirigutta jurisdiction be allocated at market price to the Hare Rama Hare Krishna (Charitable) Foundation. The proposal signals that even charitable bodies will not receive land at concessional rates, reinforcing the principle of protecting the temple's financial interests.
Development Works and Fund Release
The Chief Minister directed officials to immediately release funds earmarked for land acquisition related to various development projects within the temple's jurisdiction. He also ordered a comprehensive review of the report submitted by the engineers' committee on the construction of the Yadagirigutta temple, with a fresh consolidated report to be submitted within one week.
Additionally, Revanth Reddy called for the development of a tourism circuit around Yadagirigutta under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, signalling an intent to position the temple town as a broader pilgrimage and tourism destination.
Who Attended the Meeting
The review was attended by Rajya Sabha member Vem Narendar Reddy; Members of Parliament Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and Kunduru Raghuvir Reddy; Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah; MLA Kumbam Anil Kumar Reddy; Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan; Principal Secretary (Endowments) Shailaja Ramaiyer; Commissioner (Endowments) M. Hanumantha Rao; Principal Secretary (Finance) Sandeep Kumar Sultania; CMO Secretary Manik Raj; CMO OSD Vemula Srinivasulu; and senior officials from Yadadri district and the temple administration.
With a formal policy now in the works and a one-week deadline set for the engineers' report, the pace of Yadagirigutta's institutional development is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks.
