Agartala, Oct 7 (NationPress) Tension enveloped segments of Agartala on Tuesday following an alleged assault by BJP supporters on the Tripura headquarters of Trinamool Congress (TMC).
According to police reports, when several BJP activists attempted to strike the Trinamool office located on Chitta Ranjan Road, law enforcement intervened and managed to stabilize the situation.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a rally to denounce the alleged attack on their two-time MP from West Bengal, Khagen Murmu, which was reportedly executed by Trinamool workers in North Bengal.
The protest was spearheaded by BJP Sadar district president Ashim Bhattacharjee and MLA Sushanta Deb, who also heads the party’s youth wing.
As the rally passed the Trinamool office, a faction of BJP supporters reportedly deviated from the main group and vandalized the entrance of the Trinamool headquarters, leading to chaos in the vicinity.
Police and security forces were promptly dispatched to the scene to manage the unrest and avert further incidents.
Although no injuries were reported, visible damage was evident at the entrance of the Trinamool office.
The Trinamool Congress strongly condemned the incident. A post on X stated: “The violent assault on AITC Tripura’s office by BJP-affiliated goons is not merely an isolated incident of hostility; it represents a blatant attack on democracy. When those in power resort to violence to suppress their rivals, it reveals not strength, but fear and moral decay.”
“The BJP claims to advocate for ‘saving democracy’ while systematically dismantling its very foundations, state by state. They may demolish offices, shred posters, and intimidate workers, but they cannot extinguish the spirit of resistance within every Trinamool supporter and every citizen who stands for justice. We will not be silenced. We will not retreat. The populace of Tripura and India is observing,” the Trinamool added.
