Mumbai, July 15 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Tuesday that Tesla’s entry into India will greatly enhance Mumbai’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
His comments were made during the inauguration of Tesla’s inaugural ‘Experience Centre’ in Mumbai.
Fadnavis highlighted that this opening signifies the formal entry of the American EV giant into the Indian market.
In addition to this, Tesla is also focusing on establishing a strong ecosystem for delivery, logistics, and service in the area.
“Tesla is constructing four significant charging stations in Mumbai, which will contribute to a comprehensive charging infrastructure within the city,” CM Fadnavis remarked.
The Chief Minister expressed his happiness that Tesla selected Mumbai for its first showroom in India.
He stressed that Maharashtra is becoming a leader in EVs and mobility, driven by its favorable policies for charging infrastructure and manufacturing incentives, attracting global companies to the state.
Tesla has commenced its journey in India with the launch of its well-known Model Y. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant of the Model Y is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company has also introduced the long-range RWD variant of the Model Y, with a price tag of Rs 67.89 lakh.
While speaking at the launch event, CM Fadnavis stated, “Mumbai symbolizes innovation. It embodies sustainability. Tesla is not merely a car manufacturer—it represents design, innovation, and sustainability.”
Reflecting on his first experience with Tesla in the United States, CM Fadnavis shared, “In 2015, I rode in a Tesla in the US, and I realized then that this is the type of vehicle we require for mobility in India.”
He added, “Although it took you a decade to reach here, we are ecstatic about your arrival. I believe the people of Mumbai and India will wholeheartedly welcome Tesla. Once vehicle deliveries commence, India will undoubtedly become one of your premier markets.”
