Mumbai, July 10 (NationPress) In light of ongoing discussions regarding a potential partnership between the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) established by Raj Thackeray, Sanjay Raut, MP from Shiv Sena (UBT), emphasized the importance of forming distinct alliances for the local municipal elections. He highlighted the increasing public demand for the Thackeray brothers to unite for the upcoming BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
Raut argued that the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi or an INDIA Bloc-style coalition is unnecessary for the BMC elections, explaining that there are unique dynamics for civic and local governance, particularly for municipal corporations, zilla parishads, and nagar panchayats. He noted that sometimes separate contests are necessary, while at other times local alliances are advantageous.
He reassured that no members have exited the Maha Vikas Aghadi and reiterated the growing public sentiment urging the Thackeray brothers to engage in the BMC polls as a unified front.
“Since the Lok Sabha election results, we have not convened a single meeting of the INDIA Bloc. Uddhav Thackeray has expressed his disappointment to various leaders regarding this. The INDIA Bloc mainly addresses national issues within a parliamentary framework.
“The Shiv Sena (UBT), the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar, and the Congress Party remain the key players in the Maha Vikas Aghadi. We previously contested the Assembly elections together. None of us have departed from the Maha Vikas Aghadi, and we will continue to make decisions collectively,” Raut asserted.
He reiterated the necessity for tailored alliances at the local level for the BMC elections, stating, “The question remains whether the Maha Vikas Aghadi or INDIA Bloc will jointly participate in the local self-government elections? There are occasions when separate contests are required, and other instances when local alliances are beneficial.”
“When I was inquired about a partnership between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS for the BMC elections, I indicated that there is public pressure on us all, especially evident during the July 5 joint rally attended by the Thackeray brothers opposing the imposition of Hindi,” he stated.
“Public sentiment is strong regarding the elections for the BMC and other municipal corporations in Maharashtra, urging Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray to collaborate. Further discussions will take place on this matter,” concluded Raut.
