Mumbai, Jan 17 (NationPress) Following the intense Brihanmumbai municipal corporation (BMC) poll results, Shiv Sena-UBT President Uddhav Thackeray emphasized on Saturday that while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Eknath Shinde-led Sena faction may have attempted to undermine his party on paper, they will never be able to erase the Shiv Sena from reality.
In a speech filled with both resolve and emotional resonance directed at the newly elected corporators at his residence, Matoshree, Thackeray criticized the BJP, highlighting a fundamental disparity between his party and the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena coalition.
"They (BJP-Shiv Sena alliance) believe they have eradicated the Shiv Sena on paper, yet they can never obliterate the Shiv Sena on the ground. This is due to their inability to connect with the grassroots," he remarked to a supportive audience of Shiv Sena-UBT followers.
He acknowledged the newly elected officials for their contributions to the party's performance, stating, "You are the genuine architects of this success; I am merely a conduit. Given the circumstances surrounding this election, the outcome is a source of immense pride."
Accompanied by his wife Rashmi, son Aaditya, and party legislators Anil Parab and Varun Sardesai, Thackeray accused the Mahayuti alliance of employing various strategies -- "Sam, Dam, Dand, Bhed" (persuasion, wealth, punishment, and division) -- and misusing government resources to achieve their victory.
He stressed that even though "traitors" (referring to the Shinde faction) abandoned the party, they could not purchase the loyalty of the dedicated workers.
"I bow to each one of you. Our duty has now intensified," Thackeray remarked.
On the topic of 'Gifting' Mumbai, Thackeray launched a sharp critique against the BJP-Shinde alliance's intentions, asserting that their triumph was solely aimed at "mortgaging Mumbai" to corporate entities.
He cautioned that the Marathi populace would never absolve this "transgression."
In a statement that ignited considerable political interest, Thackeray alluded to the upcoming election for the Mayor of Mumbai.
Despite the BJP-led alliance holding a narrow majority, Thackeray subtly hinted at a possible power shift.
"It is our aspiration that our (Mumbai) Mayor should be positioned. If it is in divine will, then even that will materialize," he suggested.
Wrapping up his address, Thackeray contrasted the resources of the ruling BJP-led alliance with those of his party.
"During my campaign, we had no luxury or amenities to offer. We possess 'Tan' and 'Man' (Body and Soul), while they only have 'Dhan' (Wealth). Yet, through your unwavering strength, you made them exert themselves," he stated.
He urged the Shiv Sena-UBT corporators to uphold this unity so that future generations would reflect on their legacy with pride.
"This struggle is not concluded. Our 'Jidda' (determination) is our most significant asset, and it cannot be purchased. With that determination, we shall prevail once more," Thackeray concluded.
Thackeray's remarks come at a pivotal moment when the Shiv Sena-UBT has solidified its position as a formidable opposition entity in the BMC.
Analysts are now closely monitoring if Thackeray's reference to "God's will" implies a potential strategic alliance or a legal challenge to the majority.
