Mumbai, April 8 (NationPress) Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday criticized the MahaYuti government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the tragic passing of a pregnant woman, Tanisha Bhise, at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, alleging that she was denied treatment after being asked for a deposit of Rs 10 lakh.

Aaditya questioned why the government is shielding the hospital and its trust rather than taking action, despite findings from the inquiry committee indicating non-compliance with established norms.

“Everyone is watching to see if Chief Minister Fadnavis will take action against the trust and the management of Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital that demanded 10 lakh rupees from the woman for delivery. Her inability to pay this amount ultimately led to her death,” Aaditya remarked in a post on 'X', following the resignation of consulting obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas.

He highlighted that the internal committee dismissed the allegation of the Rs 10 lakh deposit demand by Dr. Ghaisas, while a doctor admitted and resigned from the administration on Monday.

“How can the people of Pune place their trust in a hospital that provides contradictory information to protect itself instead of prioritizing patient care? If the hospital was indeed demanding this amount, what about its tax and municipal dues, which amount to crores? Will authorities pursue the trustees and management of this hospital?” he questioned.

“Who is managing this hospital and why does it hold such influence that the Chief Minister feels the need to defend it?” Aaditya further inquired.

Dr. Ghaisas, after examining Tanisha Bhise, demanded the Rs 10 lakh deposit and subsequently resigned, citing severe public backlash, threats, and social media outrage as reasons.

Tanisha Bhise later passed away at another facility after giving birth to twin daughters.

Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, the medical director of the hospital, informed reporters: “In his resignation letter, Dr. Ghaisas indicated that he is under immense mental strain due to public anger, criticism, and threats. He fears this situation could affect his ability to care for other patients and endanger his family’s safety. To prevent any injustice to his practice, he has opted to resign.”

He noted that the hospital administration has submitted the resignation to its trustees and expects it to be accepted, adding that Dr. Ghaisas will fulfill his scheduled surgeries and continue working until Thursday.

Notably, a preliminary report from a five-member inquiry committee led by Deputy Director of the Pune Circle, Dr. Radhakishan Pawar, has found the hospital at fault for violating provisions of the Hospitals Act by failing to provide immediate treatment and subsequently referring the case for further care.

The committee was formed by the Public Health Department in response to protests against the hospital.

The report indicates that the hospital also breached the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, which mandates that charitable hospitals must provide immediate care and essential medical services for all life-threatening emergencies and stabilization procedures.
