Bhubaneswar, Aug 13 (NationPress) The Puri Police are currently on high alert following the discovery of graffiti that threatens an attack on the iconic Jagannath Temple in the revered coastal town. The alarming message was found on the walls of a nearby small temple close to the 12th-century shrine on Wednesday.
An unidentified individual has inscribed 'Terrorist will destroy the Temple' in the Odia language at two spots on the wall of the Budhi Maa Thakurani temple, situated on the southern side near the Balisahi entrance of the Puri Parikrama Prakalpa marg (Heritage Corridor).
Additionally, the graffiti included the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with some unverified phone numbers.
In a statement to the press, Pinak Mishra, the DIG and Superintendent of Police in Puri, indicated that efforts are underway to pinpoint and apprehend the suspect.
"We have noted that certain objectionable messages have been inscribed concerning the Jagannath Temple. We are taking this matter seriously and have initiated a special investigation team to determine the timing and identity of the individual responsible for this act," Puri SP remarked.
Mishra added that the police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the temple and its vicinity to help identify the perpetrator.
