Bhubaneswar, Aug 18 (NationPress) The police have apprehended three individuals in connection with the alleged gangrape of a minor girl within the jurisdiction of the Jujumara police station in Sambalpur district, Odisha, on Sunday, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo on Monday.
"A formal complaint regarding the gangrape of a minor has been lodged at the Jujumara Police Station. The local police team, led by SDPO Rairakhol, promptly initiated measures and arrested three out of the five suspects identified in the FIR filed by the victim's representative," stated the Sambalpur SP.
He went on to mention that local authorities are conducting searches at various locations to apprehend the remaining two suspects who are still in hiding. The heinous act occurred near the victim's village on Sunday evening while she was outside to answer nature's call, where she was tragically assaulted.
The Sambalpur SP further revealed that some of the accused are from the same locality as the victim.
As investigations continue, police sources indicate that more information regarding the case will be disclosed shortly.
In a related incident, Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, the Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police, announced that an auto-rickshaw driver has been arrested for allegedly committing sexual misconduct against a minor girl in the Sikharpur area under the Chauliaganj police station on August 8.
According to reports, the minor, accompanied by a friend, was shopping in the Badambadi area on August 8. While returning home, she requested water from the accused, who had none. When her friend went to purchase a bottle of water, the accused reportedly misbehaved with the victim.
The victim claimed that when she resisted his advances, he threatened her with violence. She filed a complaint with the police at the Chauliaganj police station on August 16.
