According to a police press release, a complaint was lodged by the mother of the 17-year-old victim, a Khordha resident. She claimed that her daughter and a friend were both assaulted and robbed by two young men near Lingipur village while returning from the well-known tourist destination, Dhauli, on the evening of December 10.
The mother indicated that the assailants took a 20-gram gold chain and a 5-gram silver item from the girls.
Later, she revisited the Dhauli police station with her daughter to file an additional complaint, stating that the two suspects had also sexually assaulted her minor daughter.
In response to the complaint, police officials, accompanied by a forensic team, visited the scene to gather evidence.
Ultimately, the two suspects were arrested and presented before a court on Monday.
It is noteworthy that between June 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District registered a total of 188 rape cases.
During the same timeframe, 78 cases involving the rape of minors were reported in Bhubaneswar, along with three gangrape cases.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently informed the Odisha Assembly that the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar recorded 213 cases of atrocities against women in 2024.
