Bhubaneswar IRS Officer Under Investigation for Alleged Sexual Assault
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, Feb 23 (NationPress) Following the alarming report of a minor student's gang rape by her teachers at a private school in Kendrapara district, a new incident has surfaced. A woman has lodged a complaint accusing a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer in Bhubaneswar of sexual assault, further unsettling the state.
The Commissionerate Police initiated an investigation after the complaint was filed on February 19, officially registering the case on February 20.
The complainant, a resident of Kujanga in Jagatsinghpur district, detailed in her report that she had visited the IRS officer's official residence at Satsang Vihar, situated under the jurisdiction of Saheed Nagar police station, on January 15, accompanied by the officer's cousin.
At the residence, the woman was reportedly left alone as the IRS officer's wife and cousin stepped out for errands. Seizing the opportunity, the accused allegedly displayed inappropriate material on his laptop and coerced her into engaging in sexual acts. The victim later asserted that when she resisted, the officer allegedly raped her after securing the door.
Initially, she refrained from reporting the incident due to concerns about societal judgment.
Additionally, she alleged that the officer took compromising photographs of her and used them to intimidate her into maintaining a relationship, which she declined. The victim stated that after the officer circulated the explicit photos, she felt compelled to report the matter to the police.
In response to inquiries about the case, Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh assured the media that a thorough investigation would be conducted, emphasizing that anyone found culpable would face appropriate repercussions, and that accusations alone would not result in punishment.
