Kolkata, Nov 26 (NationPress) An Assistant Sub-Inspector is facing serious allegations of multiple rapes against a housewife, reportedly after blackmailing her, during his tenure at the Baranagar Police Station in the North 24 Parganas district. A formal complaint has been filed against the accused officer at the Baranagar Police Station, as confirmed by police on Wednesday.
Sources indicate that the officer in question is Sanjiv Sen. The allegations state that these incidents occurred while he was stationed at Baranagar police station; he is now assigned to the Purulia police lines.
Reports suggest that a housewife from Baranagar had approached the police station on August 10, 2018, to report a case of marital rape against her husband.
During her visit, ASI Sanjiv Sen took her written complaint. Following that, he allegedly contacted the housewife repeatedly under the pretense of conducting an investigation and even visited her residence.
According to the allegations, one day, he visited her home and coerced her into consuming drinks laced with sedatives, causing her to lose consciousness. Upon regaining her senses, she discovered that she was unclothed.
It is claimed that Sanjiv took her to different hotels and assaulted her, threatening to share compromising images on social media. Additionally, it is alleged that when she became pregnant, he pressured her into having an abortion.
The housewife further alleged that her husband was being framed in a drug-related incident, and that her young daughter was threatened with abduction.
Authorities have indicated that similar allegations against the accused officer have arisen previously, leading to action being taken following a departmental inquiry.
A senior member of the North 24 Parganas police stated, "A complaint has been registered against the accused officer. An investigation is currently underway."
Sanjiv Sen responded to the media in Purulia, stating, "This is the first time I have heard of such allegations. They are completely unfounded. There must be a conspiracy against me. I left Baranagar police station long ago, and I am unaware of why these claims are surfacing now."
