Chikkamagaluru, Jan 18 (NationPress) A Sub-Inspector (SI) has been charged with abusing his wife over dowry demands and exploiting female complainants who sought justice at the police station in Karnataka's Chikkamagaluru district.
Following the complaint filed by the SI's wife, the Kalasa Police have commenced an investigation.
She has alleged that her husband subjected her to harassment in an attempt to extort Rs 50 lakh as dowry.
In her allegations, she also claimed that the accused's sister assaulted and abused her.
The complainant further stated that her husband would prey on women visiting the station to lodge complaints, particularly regarding passport verification. He would befriend them and coerce them into complying with his demands in exchange for assistance.
Additionally, she mentioned that while stationed at Kapu police station, her husband engaged in an affair with a woman from a minority community.
Upon discovering the affair, the woman's family attempted to confront the SI, leading him to pay Rs 4 lakh to avoid further issues, according to police reports.
The Kalasa Police are currently verifying the details of the case and will take legal action against the accused if the allegations are substantiated.
In light of the claims of harassment and exploitation of women, police are actively gathering information.
Previously, the Karnataka Police arrested a constable for allegedly raping a minor, with promises of marriage, in Dakshina Kannada district in 2021. The accused was subsequently dismissed from service.
