Bengaluru Police Inspector Accused of Harassment: Audio and Messages Leak
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 25 (NationPress) A disturbing incident has emerged involving a Bengaluru Police Inspector accused of harassing a woman with a criminal background and pressuring her to engage with him. This situation has caused significant embarrassment for the police department, particularly after audio recordings and messages of the interactions became widely circulated on social media.
The accused, Inspector Papanna from the Konanakunte police station, is facing serious allegations. The victim has lodged a formal complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, demanding immediate action against him.
The victim asserts that her prior complaints about the Inspector have been ignored. She mentioned, "The accused officer claims his wife is closely related to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, suggesting that he is untouchable. The police initiated action against me recently, yet no steps have been taken against him despite the evidence I have provided."
"Inspector Papanna has been harassing me by sending inappropriate messages on WhatsApp, professing his love and calling me 'very sexy'. These are just a few instances of his numerous messages," she detailed.
"In 2016, he summoned me for an inquiry and requested my phone number. When a police officer asks for contact details, I had no choice but to comply. He then began sending me good morning and good night texts. I shared these messages with my husband, who advised me not to respond. By February 2017, he escalated to sending crude messages. After I attempted to report him to the DCP, I received a threatening call from him," the victim explained.
"They have threatened my husband, warning him that our children might be harmed. For the past three months, Papanna has incessantly harassed me, claiming he would come to my home to cook and feed me, insisting I treat him as a friend. He brazenly states that his wife is related to CM Siddaramaiah, reinforcing his belief that he is invulnerable. Although he has been suspended twice, he swiftly resumed duty and is on track for a promotion to assistant commissioner of police, solidifying his position of power," she further elaborated.
"He must face consequences. Even if he is suspended, I fear the reinstatement will happen. He will continue to prey on women, and there are many more victims. I hold an MBA and have been awarded a PhD from an American university. The messages I’ve received from this officer are disgusting," she stated in her complaint.
The woman, identified as a rowdy sheeter at the Basavanagudi police station, was recently detained by Bengaluru Police under the stringent Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act, 2000 (KCOCA) in relation to a high-profile kidnapping case linked to a real estate businessman. Authorities noted that she is facing approximately ten cases across various police stations in Bengaluru.
