Tirupati, Feb 10 (NationPress) A woman who had made serious allegations of extortion against the Jana Sena party's Tirupati constituency in-charge, Kiran Royal, has been apprehended by law enforcement.
Lakshmi was taken into custody by a police team from Rajasthan on Monday while she was returning from a press conference held at the Tirupati Press Club.
Following her arrest, she was transferred to the SVU Police Station. Reports indicate that her arrest is linked to a case of online fraud.
Lakshmi accused Kiran of engaging in fraud and extortion, claiming that he posed a threat to her life.
She alleged that he had taken over Rs 1.20 crore and 25 sovereigns (200 grams) of gold from her under false pretenses, leading her into significant financial hardship. In a video posted on the social media platform X by the YSR Congress Party, she expressed that she felt driven to the point of suicide due to his actions.
Lakshmi mentioned that when she demanded Kiran return her money, he threatened the safety of her children. “He made me record videos under duress. He only provided me with bonds and cheques worth Rs 30 lakh,” she stated.
The woman also held a press conference where she made further accusations against the Jana Sena leader. After her video gained traction online, Kiran reached out to her, using abusive language and further threatening her. Lakshmi has also released audio recordings where Kiran can be heard threatening to kill her and stating that if arrested, he would be out of jail within a month.
In response, Jana Sena Party (JSP) President and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan instructed the party's Conflict Committee to investigate the allegations against Kiran. The party has requested Kiran to abstain from participating in any party affairs until further notice.
Women from various organizations protested outside Kiran's home on Sunday, demanding his arrest. They also urged Pawan Kalyan to suspend Kiran from the Jana Sena. The police intervened to disperse the demonstrators, warning that continued protests would result in arrests.
Kiran, on the other hand, dismissed Lakshmi's claims, labeling her as a criminal with cases registered in Jaipur, Visakhapatnam, and Bengaluru. He accused her of being involved in betting rackets and accumulating debts as a result of her own actions.
