Kolkata, Oct 8 (NationPress) A six-member delegation from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) set out for Tripura on Wednesday morning, just a day after their party office in Agartala was vandalised by miscreants.
Before their departure, TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh vehemently condemned the attack and accused the BJP of orchestrating the incident.
“Previously, our leaders faced violence – even Abhishek Banerjee’s vehicle was damaged in Agartala back in 2021. The history has been grim. Once again, our members are being threatened in numerous ways. We are prepared to confront any repercussions, but in a democratic framework, such violence occurring under police supervision must be peacefully protested and resisted,” stated Ghosh.
TMC Lok Sabha MP Saayoni Ghosh, who is part of the delegation, asserted that the recent incidents involving BJP leaders in north Bengal were not caused by TMC supporters but rather by “infuriated citizens”.
“The assault on our office was in retaliation. However, our members had no involvement in the attack on the BJP MP. Today, it is essential for us to support our colleagues in Tripura,” she emphasized.
Reports indicate that a group of miscreants targeted the TMC office in Agartala on Tuesday, damaging property, destroying party flags and banners, and assaulting party workers. The police allegedly attempted to intervene but were unable to prevent the vandalism. TMC claims that the BJP is responsible for the attack.
In a social media statement, the party remarked: “Under BJP rule, Tripura has transformed into a haven of terror where political violence has become a governing tool. What transpired in Agartala exemplifies the social and political decay of the BJP. Its supporters vandalised and plundered our office while the police stood idle as mere bystanders. This is part of a systematic campaign of terror aimed at silencing opposition voices and dismantling democracy.”
The delegation, which includes Pratima Mandal, Saayoni Ghosh, Sushmita Dev, Birbaha Hansda, Kunal Ghosh, and Sudeep Raha, will arrive in Agartala to meet the affected party workers, evaluate the situation, and formally address the matter with the state administration.
